Mobile App
The Storyfall mobile app gives you the full Storyfall experience on your phone, plus the ability to download stories and play them offline.
Getting the App
The Storyfall app is available for iPhone and iPad in the App Store. Sign in with the same account you use on the web to keep your account data, stories, and progress.
When you visit Storyfall on an iPhone or iPad, you may see one app prompt. Safari can show Apple’s app banner, which Safari manages itself. Other iOS browsers may show Storyfall’s prompt with Get iOS app and Continue on web; either choice hides Storyfall’s prompt on that device for 30 days.
The Android app is not available yet. Android visitors can keep using the mobile website.
Online Experience
When connected to the internet, the app works identically to the website. All features are available: browsing stories, playing, purchasing, the workshop, multiplayer, forums, and everything else.
Unread Badges
The More tab shows a badge with your combined unread count: notifications plus direct messages. Open the More page to see how the count splits between Messages and Notifications.
The same number appears on the Storyfall app icon on your home screen. The first time you have something unread, iOS shows the standard notification permission dialog. Storyfall does not send push notifications; allowing the request only lets the app show the unread number on its icon. You can change this anytime in iOS Settings under Notifications > Storyfall > Badges.
Badge counts update while the app is open and clear once you have read your notifications and messages.
Downloading Stories for Offline Play
You can save stories to your device so they’re available without an internet connection.
How to Download
- Open any published story’s detail page after you have access to it. Paid stories need to be purchased first.
- Tap the save icon next to the Multiplayer and Play buttons.
- The story downloads to your device as a self-contained package.
- You can also save stories from the game page while playing.
Once downloaded, the save icon marks the story as saved. Tap it again to remove the offline copy.
What’s Included
A downloaded story includes everything needed to play:
- All scenes, choices, and branching paths.
- Variables, NPC/faction relationships, and triggers.
- Story settings (character name collection, chapters).
- Storyfall-hosted images and audio referenced by the downloaded story, including Visual Novel backgrounds and sprites.
Not included in v1: Narration audio downloads, multiplayer features, and forum discussions. Hand-pasted external media URLs stay remote.
Offline Library
Access your downloaded stories from the Offline Library in the navigation menu, which is only visible in the mobile app.
The library shows:
- Story title, author, and genre.
- Download date and storage size.
- Whether you have saved progress.
- Play / Continue button to start or resume.
- Remove button to delete the offline copy.
Playing Offline
Tap a story in your offline library to play it. The offline player uses the same Storyfall game engine as single-player web play and HTML export. It supports:
- Full scene navigation with all choice types.
- Variable tracking and conditional content.
- NPC and faction relationship changes.
- Trigger-based scene redirects.
- Character selection and character-specific starting scenes.
- Input choices, dropdown choices, branch choices, back choices, timers, and text variations.
- Visual Novel scenes with downloaded Storyfall-hosted backgrounds and sprites, including choices overlaid on the scene background after the final dialogue line.
- Background music and sound effects from choices, inline sound-effect nodes, music cues, and message blocks when downloaded audio is available, with hosted URLs as a fallback. Saved volume and fade settings are preserved offline.
- Auto-save every 10 seconds and after each choice.
- Manual restart from the end screen.
Your progress is saved to the device so you can close the app and pick up where you left off.
Syncing Back Online
When you reconnect to the internet and open the Offline Library, any completed or in-progress offline playthroughs are automatically synced to your Storyfall account. This means:
- Your offline playthrough appears in your journal.
- Your choices and progress are recorded on the server.
- You can continue the story online if you prefer.
A confirmation toast appears when sync completes.
Checking for Updates
If a story author publishes changes after you downloaded, the app can detect this by comparing content hashes. You can re-download to get the latest version (note: this resets your offline progress for that story).
Storage
Downloaded stories are stored in app-private storage on your device. Storage size depends on the story and its bundled media. You can see each story’s size in the Offline Library and remove stories you no longer need.
