Storyfall

Events

Events are writing competitions hosted on Storyfall. Authors submit stories based on a theme or set of rules, and the community votes to decide the winners.

How Events Work

Event Lifecycle

  1. Announcement - The event is announced with its theme, rules, and timeline.
  2. Submission Period - Authors write and submit stories that follow the event rules.
  3. Voting Period - The community reads submissions and votes for their favorites.
  4. Results - Winners are announced and recognized.

Participating as an Author

Submitting a Story

To submit a story to an event:

  1. Open the event page.
  2. Read the rules and requirements carefully.
  3. Click “Submit Story”.
  4. Select an existing story from your workshop or create a new one.
  5. Confirm your submission.

Make sure your story follows the event’s theme and rules. Stories that don’t meet the requirements may be disqualified.

Submission Requirements

Each event defines its own rules, but common requirements include:

  • Theme - Your story must relate to the announced theme.
  • Length limits - Minimum or maximum scene counts.
  • Feature requirements - Some events may require specific features like variables or multiple endings.
  • Deadline - Stories must be submitted before the submission period closes.

Voting

How Voting Works

During the voting period, readers and other authors can play through the submitted stories and leave reviews. Voting uses the standard story review and rating system:

  1. Visit the event page during the voting period.
  2. Play through the submitted stories.
  3. Leave a review and rating on each story you want to vote for.
  4. Voting closes at the end of the voting period.

Final winners are decided by the admin, but reader ratings can decide who receives the Reader’s Choice award.

Results and Winners

After voting closes, an admin reviews entries and chooses winner tiers (1st Place, 2nd Place, 3rd Place, Honorable Mention) in the admin dashboard. Placements only appear on the public event page once the admin clicks Confirm Winners. Until then, entries show only their rating and review count, with no placements.

After confirmation, the event page lists tiered winners at the top with their tier badge, followed by the remaining entries sorted by reader rating. Numbered placements like 1st, 2nd, 3rd are conveyed through the tier badge, not a separate rank number.

Winning stories get recognition and visibility on the platform via unique badges and achievements. Event badges appear on the profiles of active creators and writer team members for the awarded story. Reader team members do not receive event badges. When an event badge is awarded, each creator and writer team member receives an in-app notification and an email, depending on their notification preferences.
