Storyfall

Collaboration

Work together with your team on interactive stories. Storyfall provides tools for leaving notes, annotating scenes with threaded comments, and seeing who else is editing in real time.

Writer Comments

Writer comments are private notes visible only to writers. They never appear in the published story. Use them to leave reminders, flag issues, or communicate with co-writers directly in the scene text.

Creating Writer Comments

  • Keyboard shortcut: Press Cmd+Shift+/ (Mac) or Ctrl+Shift+/ (Windows) to toggle a paragraph into a writer comment.
  • Typing shortcut: Type // (two slashes and a space) at the start of a line.
  • Slash command: Type /comment or /note in the editor.
  • Toolbar button: Click the // button in the scene editor toolbar.

Writer comments appear with a dashed left border and italic styling. Press Enter at the end of a comment to return to normal text. Press Backspace on an empty comment to convert it back to a regular paragraph.

You can use writer comments freely without worrying about readers seeing them.

Scene Comments

Annotate specific text in your scenes with threaded comments, similar to Google Docs. Comments support threading (replies), resolution, and are available to all writers on the story, including solo authors.

Adding a Comment

  1. Select text in the scene editor. A floating toolbar appears.
  2. Click Comment.
  3. Type your comment in the sidebar panel that opens.
  4. Press Enter or click the send button.

The selected text is highlighted in yellow to show that a comment is attached.

Scene-Level Comments

To add a comment not tied to specific text:

  1. Open the Comments panel in the sidebar (Ctrl+Shift+M).
  2. Click the + button in the panel header.
  3. Type your comment and submit.

Viewing and Replying

Click any comment in the Comments panel to open its thread. You can:

  • Reply to continue the conversation.
  • Edit your own comments (pencil icon on hover).
  • Delete your own comments, or any comment if you’re the story creator (trash icon on hover).

Resolving Comments

Click Resolve on a root comment to mark it as done. Resolved comments appear muted in the editor and can be filtered in the Comments panel. Click Reopen to unresolve.

Filtering

Use the dropdown at the top of the Comments panel to filter by:

  • All: every comment.
  • Open: unresolved comments only.
  • Resolved: resolved comments only.

Notifications

When someone replies to your comment or leaves a new root comment on your story, you can receive in-app and email notifications. Manage your notification preferences from your account settings.

Real-Time Editing

When multiple team members open the same story in the editor, Storyfall automatically connects them for real-time collaboration.

Presence

Active editors appear as colored avatars at the top of the editor. Each collaborator is assigned a unique color that persists for the session.

Live Cursors

When two editors are viewing the same scene, you can see each other’s cursor position and text selection in real time, shown in the collaborator’s assigned color with their name label.

Syncing

Changes are saved and synced automatically between editors. When someone else edits a scene you’re viewing, the content updates in place.
